My name is Alexis Jones and I am a Fashion Merchandising student at Central Michigan University. I am a highly active and self motivated individual with a passion for growth and diverse opportunities. Pursuing both a degree in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in Professional Sales, I expect to graduate my spring semester of 2017. Following graduation, it is my goal to complete the accelerated Master’s program in May of 2018 and gain a Master’s Degree in Apparel Product Development and Merchandising Technology.

 

By utilizing my passion, creative thinking, and leadership I have acquired a diverse set of skills and achievements that have helped me seek new experiences and prepare me for my future career in the fashion industry. Throughout my courses I have been able to gain valuable experiences in merchandising, buying, marketing, sales, and event planning. In addition to that my academics have been supplemented with real-world experience throughout my involvements on campus and through various internships. As I grow closer to graduation, I  am excited pursue all of the possibilities that industry has to offer me. By combining both my skills and my passion, I am confident in my abilities to succeed and make an impact in the fashion industry.

Philosophy Statement

"Innovation is achieved through the perseverance and embrace of challenges within the fashion industry and everyday life. As a fashion merchandiser I am able to embrace challenges by merging my critical and creative thinking skills to constantly create, critique, and communicate new ideas with others. It is my aspiration in life to continuously explore my passions, pursue my purpose, and achieve personal growth. By understanding the mindset of both a business and artist, I am able to channel different perspectives of a successful fashion retail business. Constantly working in a team based environment, I am able to demonstrate my merchandising skills by conducting research, collaborating, and conveying information effectively within a corporate culture."

 

Career Goals 

  • During my first year I would like to gain an entry level position in retail management developing my knowledge of management, planning and allocation, and merchandising with an established retail business.

  • In two to three years, I would like to strategically move into a store management position where I oversee a department of my own and lead others effectively.

  • In five years, I would hope to have enough retail management experience to shift into merchandise management and oversee company projects.

 

MANAGEMENT

  • Analyzed department performance to identify commercial opportunities and maximize sales

  • Guided and supervised employees working in retail stores on product displays,promotions, new products, effective customer service and sales techniques.

  • Ability to provide superior customer experience by addressing customer concerns and resolving problems on the spot.

  • Driving operational, visual and customer service standards in store while working in a fast paced environment.

MERCHANDISING

  • Forecasting sales and production for each season based on past sales and current market.

  • Skilled in the merchandising and placement of goods, adhering to brand guidelines and developing presentations that are attractive, accessible, and improve sales

  • Maintain merchandise presentation by stocking merchandise, setting up, cleaning, and organizing product displays, signing and pricing merchandise appropriately.

  • Maintaining awareness of market trends in the retail industry, and monitoring competitors.

PLANNING AND ALLOCATION

  • Capacities to translate strategic plans into profitable purchases and merchandising plans
     

  • Well-developed skills in prioritizing, organization, decision making, time management, and verbal/written communication skills

  • Using information technology to record sales figures and for data analysis and forward planning
